Diabetes Education To Assist
Sheree is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator with the Australian Diabetes Educator’s Association (ADEA). Sheree completed her Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) degree at the University of Ballarat Victoria. Her honours thesis explored “People with type 2 diabetes perceptions of their diabetes management and experiences of using community based services.” which was later published in the June 2008 Contemporary Nurse Journal. Sheree is a fully qualified Registered Div 1 Nurse with the Nursing Board of Victoria (NBV), and has completed postgraduate study receiving a Certificate in Diabetes Education at Curtin University, Western Australia and further postgraduate study specialising in Diabetes and Pregnancy. Both programs having a strong Indigenous and multicultural focus. Sheree has also received a Certificate of Competence in the Flinders Chronic Condition Self management training.
Sheree has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, aged care services and clients with special needs with type 1 diabetes, Latent Onset Diabetes in Adults (LADA), type 2 diabetes, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and diabetes, and pre-existing diabetes and pregnancy. Sheree also has experience working with clients with diabetes in the pharmacy setting, home setting, aged care and in community health.
Sheree has past experience in developing and facilitating diabetes programs for the community; providing individual and group diabetes education sessions, diabetes health promotion, providing multicultural diabetes education and intergrating and managing the Diabetes Hospital Admission Risks Program (HARP). Sheree also has extensive experience in running monthly diabetes support groups, diabetes walking groups, writing, editing and producing monthly diabetes newsletters for the community and service providers. Sheree is also a moderator for the Melton and Bacchus Marsh Diabetes Support Group, "My Connected Community" - a website which provides many resources, links and an open forum for people with diabetes to communicate with others with diabetes on line.
She attends many annual professional development days and annual state and national diabetes conferences and numerous diabetes training sessions sponsored by diabetes pharmaceutical and representative companies and diabetes organisations. Sheree also maintains active memberships with leading diabetes organisations, associations, special interest groups (SIG) and diabetes and nursing societies.
